Man receives £32k compensation

A man has been awarded a payout of £32,000 after suffering the loss of an eye in an accident at work.

Plasterer David Perry secured the sum in a settlement with Cardiff county council, which is headquartered in the Atlantic Wharf area of the city.

He had been working at a council house when he reached for a sweeping brush and caught his right eye on the handle of a cement mixer, Workplace Law Network reports.

The rubber cap which was usually in place at the end of the handle had worn away, exposing a sharp edge.

Mr Perry was taken to the University Hospital of Wales where he underwent extensive surgery and treatment.

The 52-year-old said: "Sadly I lost the sight of this eye and I've been left disfigured and have had to keep it in place for cosmetic purposes. I am extremely frustrated by the disability that I have been left with."
