Woman secures payout

A woman who suffered damage to her ankle as a result of a fall has been awarded compensation, it has emerged.
Elaine Clements was posting a letter in the south-west London suburb of New Malden in November 2007 when the accident happened.
The 56-year-old stepped in a pothole after getting out of her car, the Kingston Guardian reports.
She claims that her ankle was injured for three months and caused her considerable pain.
During a recent hearing, it was ruled that the local council was 50 per cent responsible for Ms Clements' suffering.
She stated: "People fall over, that happens. But what you want is a council that takes responsibility for its actions because it was a huge hole and it had been there for ages."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Kingston council said that the organisation rarely has to go to court in such cases as it usually settles before this stage.
